Prague weather is characterised by a continental climate, due to the city's location. However there are several periods during which Prague weather is influnsed by different weather patterns from Siberia and the Atlantic. This explains why Prague weather is extreme with quite great fluctuations in weather conditions between winter and summer. While winters are fairly cold with temperatures wavering between 0 to - 7° C, most of the time, but also dropping to -15° C on occasion, summers are sunny and warm with an average temperature 19° C, climbing up to 23° C during July and August. Rainfalls are evenly distributed amongst the months of the year, while the period from May to August is expected to be the wettest of the year.

Winter

Even though winters in Prague can get extremely cold the traveller may notice that rain is most of the times limited to short mild showers. Snow is said to be almost rare inthe city but when it happens it adds up to the magic atmosphaire of the city without blocking the transportation. Spring

Prague weather in Spring is considered to be the best period to visit the city. The weather is generally warm but mild. Early spring days can be a bit chilly, but in the mid April you will find that the weather is getting gradually warmer. Spring time will also allow you to enjoy the numerous gardens in the city in their full bloom, while parks and green zones give away a sense of freshness.

Summer

As described above summer time in Prague can be hot with temperatures dashing up to 35° C. Humidity is a common characteristic of the summer in the city due to the existance of the Vltava River, that causes a feeling of oppression. While the locals move to the countryside which is cooler, there are still a lot of things to do in Prague, or even take the advantage of enjoying the city without the fuss and bustle of any other period. The days are longer at this time, so you can enjoy the charm of the city. Keep in mind that occassional rain showers can happen late in the afternoon.

Autumn

This is one of the driest seasons in the year. Rainfall is quite limited and there is plenty of sunshine allowing you to take a pleasant visit around the city's sites, museums and other places of interest. The colors of the trres in the shades of golden and brown match the character of the buildings in the old town and the castle area creating a picturesque scenery and a romantique atmosphere.

Those who have already been there suggest that it is preferable to visit the city during Spring or Autumn as Prague weather at the certain time is ideal for holidays and tours around the city. Besides these periods correspond to the Spring and the Fall Festival respectively. Whenever you decide to visit Prague you will be able to make the most of it as long as you are properly prepared for the weather conditions.
